Welcome to the inaugural episode of the ANEW Body Insight Podcast, hosted by Dr. Supatra Tovar and Chantal Donnelly. In this episode, we are honored to have Tracey Mallett, a world-renowned fitness and wellness expert, joining us at City Club Los Angeles. Tracey's story is one of resilience, innovation, and inspiration.

Tracey Mallett's illustrious career began in the Midlands of the UK, near Manchester and Birmingham. With a passion for dance from a young age, she attended a theatre arts school at 16, where her journey into fitness truly began. One of her early classes, dance conditioning, sparked her lifelong dedication to fitness. Under the guidance of a ballet teacher who was also a Lottie Burke instructor, Tracey was introduced to Pilates and barre, laying the foundation for her future success.

Tracey's transition from dance to fitness was marked by her innovative spirit. She moved to the United States, where she quickly established herself as a fitness professional. Tracey's unique ability to fuse Pilates, dance, and fitness led her to create the hugely popular workout programs bootybarre and bbarreless. These programs revolutionized the fitness industry, blending Pilates and barre techniques to offer a comprehensive and engaging workout experience.

Tracey's career soared as she became a television host, author, and personal trainer. Her bestselling books, "Sexy in Six" and "Super Fit Mama," along with her extensive line of Pilates, dance, and fitness-based videos, have made her a household name. To date, Tracey has sold over 2 million units of her fitness videos, solidifying her reputation as an international fitness and wellness expert.

However, Tracey's journey was not without its challenges. In this episode, she opens up about her personal battle with stress and health issues. Despite being the picture of health, Tracey experienced severe migraines and other symptoms that led to the discovery of a brain tumor. Her candid recounting of this difficult time underscores the importance of stress management and listening to one's body.

Tracey's resilience and determination are evident in how she handled her health scare. From the shock of the diagnosis to undergoing surgery and recovery, Tracey remained a beacon of strength and positivity. Her experience has profoundly shaped her approach to fitness and wellness, emphasizing the need for balance and self-care.

In addition to her fitness programs, Tracey has continued to innovate with her new app, Pilates Barre On Demand. This app offers a variety of fusion fitness workouts with new weekly videos, making Tracey's expertise accessible to a global audience. Whether you're a longtime follower or new to her workouts, Pilates Barre On Demand provides an excellent platform to experience Tracey's dynamic and effective fitness routines.

Tracey Mallett is in the house at City Club today.

00:01:04:15 - 00:01:07:15
Let me tell you about Tracey Mallett.

00:01:07:22 - 00:01:11:23
There's a lot to tell as far as what she has done with her career.

00:01:11:23 - 00:01:13:15
So sit back, relax.

00:01:13:15 - 00:01:16:13
This is going to be a good hour long intro.

00:01:16:13 - 00:01:19:15
I would guess, for everything that this woman has done in her life.

00:01:19:15 - 00:01:21:08
So here we go.

00:01:21:08 - 00:01:25:18
Tracey Mallett is a world renowned fitness and wellness expert,

00:01:26:09 - 00:01:29:12
bestselling author of Sexy in Six

00:01:29:12 - 00:01:35:08
and Super Fit Mama, and the creator of the hugely popular workout

00:01:35:16 - 00:01:38:16
bootybarre and bbarreless

00:01:39:05 - 00:01:43:13
Her workouts have allowed her to work in roles spanning from television host

00:01:43:19 - 00:01:48:01
to author to personal trainer and creator of bestselling

00:01:48:01 - 00:01:51:12
line of Pilates, dance and fitness based videos.

00:01:52:12 - 00:01:55:13
She has sold over 2

00:01:55:13 - 00:02:00:05
million units to date, 2 million units.

00:02:02:14 - 00:02:03:22
She has solidified her

00:02:03:22 - 00:02:07:17
reputation as an international fitness and wellness expert.

00:02:08:01 - 00:02:11:16
She has been a fitness professional for over 25 years

00:02:11:16 - 00:02:14:16
and prides herself on being an innovator.

00:02:15:00 - 00:02:18:10
This is true in the Pilates and fitness industry.

00:02:19:13 - 00:02:22:07
Tracey owns a Pilates, Barre, and physical

00:02:22:07 - 00:02:25:12
therapy studio in Los Angeles called ATP training,

00:02:26:02 - 00:02:29:13
which we all used to work at

00:02:30:05 - 00:02:34:02
and has certified thousands of trainers worldwide,

00:02:34:02 - 00:02:37:06
including myself, for the last ten years —well, in Pilates

00:02:38:22 - 00:02:41:19
And then she's also certified thousands of trainers

00:02:41:19 - 00:02:45:02
worldwide,  for the last ten years in her program, bootybarre and bbarreless.

00:02:45:23 - 00:02:50:06
Her most recent venture is a new app called Pilates Barre On Demand,

00:02:50:16 - 00:02:54:08
delivering the best in fusion fitness workouts with new weekly videos/

00:02:56:06 - 00:02:59:06
We're really excited that you're here.

00:02:59:13 - 00:03:01:23
I’m really excited to be here with two amazing women.

00:03:01:23 - 00:03:03:10
Aww.

00:03:03:10 - 00:03:07:12
C’mon, I got to pass it onto you. I know, I know them very well. Both of them very well.

00:03:07:19 - 00:03:10:20
a little too well. And they both need a little kudos.

00:03:11:11 - 00:03:13:13
for what they achieved

00:03:13:13 - 00:03:16:13
because I know this is a little bit off script,

00:03:16:13 - 00:03:19:13
but I know this is supposed to be about me.

00:03:19:20 - 00:03:22:19
I actually  met Chantal

00:03:22:19 - 00:03:27:04
When, she just kind of recently-ish moved to LA-ish.

00:03:28:00 - 00:03:28:13
You know, I won’t

00:03:28:13 - 00:03:31:13
go with the days because we forget the days as we age

00:03:31:22 - 00:03:34:22
And we just opened ATP which is my little

00:03:35:21 - 00:03:39:11
studio, and she comes and takes an interview and I am like

00:03:39:11 - 00:03:44:15
Wow I love this girl. She could be, my best friend.

00:03:44:15 - 00:03:47:15
And seriously, she did become my best friend

00:03:47:15 - 00:03:50:15
we hired her, And that was amazing.

00:03:50:17 - 00:03:50:23
And we have been best friends ever since.

00:03:50:23 - 00:03:56:10
And now Supatra comes along a newbie in Pilates.

00:03:56:10 - 00:04:00:07
She’s like, “Im just getting certified in Pilates.”

00:04:00:07 - 00:04:03:23
She was like, really excited. She was doing her acting and all that kind of stufff

00:04:03:23 - 00:04:07:12
at the time, like, this is going back many years.

00:04:08:01 - 00:04:11:01
And she’s become one of my best Pilates instructors because she always had this beautiful

00:04:11:01 - 00:04:14:10
smile on her face. Just look at that smile

00:04:14:10 - 00:04:15:17
Exactly.

00:04:15:17 - 00:04:20:10
So I always think of this one thing about being a fitness instructor, or whatever instructor

00:04:20:10 - 00:04:23:00
or whatever instructor you are, when you’re working with  the general public

00:04:23:00 - 00:04:26:17
of course there’s some science to it, absolutely

00:04:26:17 - 00:04:28:21
and we'll talk about that when we go through,

00:04:28:21 - 00:04:32:06
you know, our conversation today. But really

00:04:32:06 - 00:04:37:04
It's the heart, it’s the personality that

00:04:37:04 - 00:04:38:20
really draws people  to you.  It’s

00:04:38:20 - 00:04:41:20
about the energy and you can see that these two ladies and I’m will include

00:04:41:20 - 00:04:46:07
myself, I’ll give myself a pat on the back, a little bit.

00:04:46:08 - 00:04:53:01
We have incredible energy because we love to help people and that’s why we are here. for you today.

00:04:53:01 - 00:04:53:14
Yay.

00:04:53:14 - 00:04:56:14
Nice intro.

00:04:57:19 - 00:05:00:17
So, Tracey, you started out as a dancer

00:05:00:17 - 00:05:03:17
and then became a Pilates instructor.

00:05:05:10 - 00:05:06:18
And that was before you came

00:05:06:18 - 00:05:09:18
became super famous,.

00:05:09:19 - 00:05:12:11
Super famous.

00:05:12:10 - 00:05:17:17
I actually started, obviously you can tell from my accent, it’s kind of a little screwed up now but I

00:05:17:18 - 00:05:24:15
am originally born in the UK in the Midlands, near Manchester/Birmingham area, I went to college

00:05:24:14 - 00:05:28:16
at a theatre arts school at 16,. to a theatre arts school and

00:05:28:16 - 00:05:31:00
one of my first classes

00:05:31:00 - 00:05:36:04
on my time table was called dance conditioning, and I am like God I don’t want to do this

00:05:36:04 - 00:05:40:14
I wanna come here to dance. I don’t want a conditioning class. Walked into this class

00:05:40:14 - 00:05:47:13
And actually that class turned out to shape me for the rest of my life. It was half on the barre. And it was half on the floor.

00:05:47:13 - 00:05:52:15
And I was like, oh this is pretty cool. I can feel my inner thighs. I can feel my abs.

00:05:52:18 - 00:05:56:02
I[’m like oh this is good, I can slim down my legs a little bit

00:05:56:02 - 00:05:59:16
This is feeling really good. Didn’t know that my

00:05:59:16 - 00:06:00:21
dance teacher happened to be a ballet teacher.

00:06:00:21 - 00:06:02:19
She was a

00:06:02:19 - 00:06:06:11
Lottie Burke instructor, which was one of the innovators within the

00:06:06:11 - 00:06:10:10
Barre industry, you know that not all of people know.

00:06:10:10 - 00:06:12:21
And because it was very big in London.

00:06:12:21 - 00:06:13:22
at the time.

00:06:13:22 - 00:06:16:16
And, she was also very much into

00:06:16:16 - 00:06:18:09
Pilates because she was a ballet dance teacher

00:06:18:09 - 00:06:20:15
So it was her version of it

00:06:20:15 - 00:06:22:23
I realize I was doing barre

00:06:22:23 - 00:06:25:12
and then we get on the floor, and we’re doing these floor barre

00:06:25:12 - 00:06:27:16
but it was really based on Pilates.

00:06:27:16 - 00:06:29:04
And that was my first introduction.

00:06:29:04 - 00:06:31:22
I was like pretty much 16 years old.

00:06:31:22 - 00:06:34:20
I fell in love with the fact that you could do all these fun things

00:06:34:20 - 00:06:39:08
but it was really, I have to admit, it was from an aesthetic point of view..

00:06:39:08 - 00:06:41:08
I'm not one of those PIlates instructors or fitness

00:06:41:08 - 00:06:45:02
people who say, like, had a bad back and I found Pilates and it cured me.

00:06:45:02 - 00:06:48:11
It was pure vanity.

00:06:50:07 - 00:06:53:17
Which both of you can attest to that, right?

00:06:53:17 - 00:06:55:21
Well, yes.

00:06:55:21 - 00:06:58:21
Would you say that it also helps you mentally?

00:06:59:06 - 00:07:02:06
Absolutely. I mean definitely

00:07:02:07 - 00:07:03:18
Fast forward to sitting here right

00:07:03:18 - 00:07:07:20
now, I think Pilates and fitness and dance, however

00:07:07:20 - 00:07:11:12
you want to put it, has  totally been the backbone of my life.

00:07:12:04 - 00:07:14:04
Through everything I've gone through in my life.

00:07:14:04 - 00:07:16:08
And everything absolutely and I think if it wasn’t for

00:07:16:10 - 00:07:19:10
being able to move and and and being

00:07:19:10 - 00:07:26:13
connected to your inner soul, inner body. I don’t think I’d be sitting her right now. It’s true. It’s so true.

00:07:26:15 - 00:07:29:22
Well, even though some health issue

00:07:29:22 - 00:07:32:23
didn't bring you to Pilates, you recently

00:07:35:01 - 00:07:38:01
experienced a pretty significant health scar.

00:07:38:02 - 00:07:41:08
What happened and how did this have have an impact on you.

00:07:41:08 - 00:07:44:08
And what do you —you know in what you're doing now.

00:07:44:09 - 00:07:47:09
Well, very interesting

00:07:48:04 - 00:07:52:19
I think this is a good topic specifically on what you’re doing now with stress and everything

00:07:52:19 - 00:07:58:22
I truly believe that the reason I got sick was stress. I really do.

00:07:58:22 - 00:08:05:20
There’s no scientific reasoning behind that. I just really believe that  was what happened.

00:08:05:20 - 00:08:13:01
At the time I was I created this fantastic program bootybarre, which is. a fusion of Pilates and barre

00:08:13:04 - 00:08:19:21
And barre wasn’t very big then. This was around 2009 actually.

00:08:20:02 - 00:08:29:14
I had the downward economy. It wasn’t very good in 2009. And I had a lot of Pilates instructors that I had actually trained.

00:08:29:14 - 00:08:32:22
that were like God I need to put something in my studio

00:08:32:22 - 00:08:37:17
in my Pilates studio that was a little less expensive than Pilates

00:08:37:17 - 00:08:44:00
You gotta remember this was a long time ago. A little less expensive than Pilates—kind of similar to Pilates.

00:08:44:00 - 00:08:48:15
So like I can make some money., So I'm like, okay, well, we love that new video

00:08:48:15 - 00:08:53:18
you put out there that bootybarre video. It’s doing really well, can we just  take that video and copy it?

00:08:53:18 - 00:08:56:00
And I'm like, yeah go copy it . And like no but

00:08:56:00 - 00:08:58:10
we need you. We need you to train us. And I’m like

00:08:58:10 - 00:09:01:10
Really? And they’re like yeah. So I put a certification together

00:09:01:10 - 00:09:06:16
Well it wasn’t really a certification at the time I put a course together. They were all Pilates instructors. Started it.

00:09:06:16 - 00:09:08:07
And then that kind of snowballed.

00:09:08:07 - 00:09:10:20
That whole

00:09:10:20 - 00:09:13:03
barre craze and I do

00:09:13:03 - 00:09:15:23
I'm I'm a very humble person, but I do pride

00:09:15:23 - 00:09:18:23
I myself that the barre industry

00:09:18:23 - 00:09:27:18
specifically in the fitness industry was driven by me, there were obviously other people involved in it too.

00:09:27:18 - 00:09:31:00
but they were mostly in

00:09:31:00 - 00:09:34:00
more in the franchise. Which is more the Lottie Burke.

00:09:34:00 - 00:09:40:11
I actually brought Pilates to the barre. So even now people are like, oh, this is barre. No it’s Pilates standing at the barre.

00:09:40:11 - 00:09:48:21
There’s a big difference because I come from a very strong Pilates background So, it was kind of like overnight.

00:09:48:21 - 00:09:55:22
Just, just like blew up. It was like bizarre, And it was never, ever anything that I planned.

00:09:55:22 - 00:09:59:10
and all these people were like can we take the certification?

00:09:59:10 - 00:10:02:07
So it just went kind of as we would say now viral

00:10:02:07 - 00:10:03:20
Right. Viral.

00:10:03:20 - 00:10:07:05
And so I was traveling all over the world, and it was hard.

00:10:07:06 - 00:10:10:06
I mean., small kids at the time

00:10:10:06 - 00:10:13:21
my parents lived you know,  nearby so that was great.

00:10:13:21 - 00:10:15:10
But there's just so much stress.

00:10:15:10 - 00:10:18:10
And then, started getting migraines.

00:10:18:10 - 00:10:20:23
And I remember actually

00:10:20:23 - 00:10:22:08
having a photo shoot

00:10:22:08 - 00:10:25:18
And I looked at this picture and I was like, that’s weird.

00:10:25:18 - 00:10:28:01
Why is my eye dilated on one side and the other one isn’t?

00:10:28:21 - 00:10:32:02
And I remember going to my photographer and I am

00:10:32:06 - 00:10:37:08
like, can you airbrush that out, remember, can you just get rid of that. And he’s like oh yeah that’s weird.

00:10:37:08 - 00:10:40:23
Oh I didn’t notice that before. I swear to you I didn’t think anything of it.

00:10:40:23 - 00:10:46:17
I’d have migraines every single month. and it was kind of round about actually  it was around ovulation time

00:10:46:17 - 00:10:52:10
when your body really inflames, you get more edema,  you get more inflammation, is the word.

00:10:53:04 - 00:10:55:14
And so I went to doctor after doctor

00:10:55:14 - 00:10:56:21
Oh it’s just migraines.

00:10:56:21 - 00:11:00:09
My parents my mom had migraines you’re just taking after them. OK.

00:11:00:09 - 00:11:03:00
took every medicine. Nothing worked.

00:11:03:00 - 00:11:08:05
So, traveled a lot, which doesn’t help we know,

00:11:08:14 - 00:11:14:02
traveled a lot. And then I went to England after being in Dubai. I went to Boston.

00:11:14:06 - 00:11:18:08
Went to somewhere else and, you know, in a period of five

00:11:18:08 - 00:11:20:20
weeks. So my brain took a lot.

00:11:20:20 - 00:11:23:05
Got to England.

00:11:23:14 - 00:11:29:03
Went to Blackpool. I know you have very international people listening to this so you understand where Blackpoool

00:11:29:03 - 00:11:32:23
Is right? So I went to Blackpool

00:11:32:23 - 00:11:36:12
I was teaching doing a certification and a workshop

00:11:36:12 - 00:11:46:22
And I was really sick and I must have collapsed. So my poor mother and dad drove all the way up to Blackpool. It’s just a migraine I will be fine

00:11:46:22 - 00:11:54:17
They took me, picked me up, I was kind of disillusioned. I was like, OK I’ve just got a migraine. Brought me back to the midlands.

00:11:54:17 - 00:11:58:07
Took me to ER. Emergency.

00:11:58:07 - 00:12:00:11
I was out it. Don’t remember anything. Took a Cat scan

00:12:00:22 - 00:12:04:06
And the first thing they said was, what is wrong

00:12:04:06 - 00:12:08:05
her eye dilated. And that was why they gave me a Cat scan. Because the eye was dilated.

00:12:08:05 - 00:12:11:10
And you had never had a Cat scan in the United States up until then.

00:12:12:04 - 00:12:14:14
I mean, you gotta also think  like.

00:12:14:14 - 00:12:19:00
And we were all in denial  and this is one thing I’d like to say to everybody is like

00:12:19:13 - 00:12:23:17
I’m a picture of health. But you never know!

00:12:23:20 - 00:12:25:04
That doesn't mean anything.

00:12:25:04 - 00:12:27:22
You know, I would never have believed

00:12:27:22 - 00:12:30:10
in a million years

00:12:30:10 - 00:12:33:10
that I would be rushed in to an MRI

00:12:33:22 - 00:12:36:22
to wake up to find out that I was I had a brain tumor as big as a

00:12:37:02 - 00:12:38:20
golf ball in my head.

00:12:38:20 - 00:12:43:11
I mean, how is that when I'm a fitness expert, I do everything I’m supposed to do.

00:12:43:17 - 00:12:44:10
Right.

00:12:44:10 - 00:12:54:09
One thing I didn’t do was—really out of control stress. Which has been for all of us, especially me, because I am a bit of a go-getter. Too much.

00:12:54:18 - 00:12:59:03
Yeah. I believe that was one of the tings.

00:12:59:23 - 00:13:00:09
Well,

00:13:00:09 - 00:13:04:07
you said that there's not really a scientific basis behind,

00:13:04:21 - 00:13:07:18
stress causing physical ailments. But that’s

00:13:07:18 - 00:13:10:03
actually not true. There’s plenty of evidence. There is.

00:13:10:03 - 00:13:12:20
And they’re doing a lot of research on that.

00:13:12:20 - 00:13:16:11
And, Chantal is our resident expert in this and knows

00:13:16:11 - 00:13:20:23
plenty about what stress can do to you physically.

00:13:21:14 - 00:13:25:15
I think so because you know after going to the doctors,

00:13:25:15 - 00:13:27:18
they’re like they don’t really know

00:13:27:18 - 00:13:33:08
It was a meningioma. And thank God it wasn’t cancer.

00:13:33:08 - 00:13:34:00
I'll never forget

00:13:34:00 - 00:13:39:01
Tracy had the operation to have the tumor removed.

00:13:39:03 - 00:13:45:00
They flew her back from London, and then she had the the, It was at Keck, yeah?

00:13:45:00 - 00:13:47:09
You know, the surgery. Yeah Keck.

00:13:47:09 - 00:13:49:23
And...

00:13:49:23 - 00:13:51:09
I think the surgery was on a Monday.

00:13:51:09 - 00:13:54:09
By Friday, you were in heels at a party.

00:13:55:20 - 00:13:58:00
And that's the way Tracy rolls.

00:13:58:00 - 00:13:59:16
that was and I.

00:13:59:16 - 00:14:02:16
Yeah, I still remember being at that party with you and thinking

00:14:03:09 - 00:14:06:09
she just had brain surgery on Monday, and here she is.

00:14:07:10 - 00:14:17:03
I’m really thankful. I give a shout out to Keck USC because I literally flew back after they told me I had this brain tumor

00:14:17:15 - 00:14:24:02
And I’m in the UK, you know they don’t exactly have a great bedside manner. and you know

00:14:24:02 - 00:14:26:06
go back, go back

00:14:26:06 - 00:14:29:22
to your family in California spend what time you’ve got left with your family

00:14:30:09 - 00:14:31:16
I will never forget.

00:14:31:16 - 00:14:35:23
My mom was in the room and I just like, what are you saying am I going to

00:14:36:09 - 00:14:40:12
Die? In not so nice of words. And so.

00:14:40:12 - 00:14:44:06
that whole month, and you were with me at the time

00:14:44:06 - 00:14:46:04
that whole month they

00:14:46:04 - 00:14:49:17
told me that they found something in my liver. That this was the

00:14:49:17 - 00:14:52:01
primary and this was the secondarry.

00:14:52:01 - 00:14:53:15
So I flew back

00:14:53:15 - 00:14:55:00
And it was

00:14:55:00 - 00:14:55:14
probably about four

00:14:55:14 - 00:14:57:19
weeks

00:14:57:19 - 00:15:00:19
I thought I was going to die, and I think even today

00:15:01:09 - 00:15:07:01
I can’t say it without like, because that does change your whole perception on life.

00:15:07:01 - 00:15:10:08
Because you think one minute your healthy and the next minute

00:15:10:08 - 00:15:11:06
Boom. It's gone.

00:15:11:06 - 00:15:12:23
Yeah, yeah.

00:15:12:23 - 00:15:15:14
It was a really trying time. Sorry.

00:15:15:14 - 00:15:17:17
No. I, I remember that time.

00:15:17:17 - 00:15:20:12
It was pretty intense and it was intense for me.

00:15:20:12 - 00:15:22:12
I can't even imagine what it was like for you.

00:15:22:12 - 00:15:24:23
It was.

00:15:24:23 - 00:15:27:21
But I think from a positive note

00:15:27:21 - 00:15:32:20
I think when something like that happens to you it does change your whole

00:15:32:20 - 00:15:39:04
reflection on life that we are so goddamn lucky to be here.

00:15:39:04 - 00:15:44:09
and we should all sit and smell the roses a little bit more and listen

00:15:44:09 - 00:15:48:14
to ourselves, listen to our body and really be appreciative of every breath we take because

00:15:48:14 - 00:15:52:19
you just don’t know when it’s gone and we really should. We’re always so

00:15:52:19 - 00:15:57:00
geared to move onto the next thing and the next thing and the next thing

00:15:57:00 - 00:16:01:07
I am such a high achiever, which I am. Such a high achiever.

00:16:01:07 - 00:16:04:07
Such a strong work ethic.

00:16:05:09 - 00:16:06:06
But it was

00:16:07:05 - 00:16:07:11
not that

00:16:07:11 - 00:16:09:07
I would want anyone to go through it.

00:16:09:07 - 00:16:14:06
But I am so glad I did. Because I sit here and I am a better person.

00:16:14:06 - 00:16:15:09
How have you changed?

00:16:15:09 - 00:16:17:15
Like, how do you find balance now?

00:16:17:15 - 00:16:20:19
Knowing how important it is for you to do so?

00:16:21:23 - 00:16:25:03
When something trivial comes up, like you break your nail. I’m kidding.

00:16:27:11 - 00:16:33:03
You’re like oh God, I can’t get to my manicurist. No I’m kidding. No, I think when things are going bad

00:16:33:03 - 00:16:35:10
I always reflect

00:16:35:10 - 00:16:37:13
Or I think they’re going bad but they’re not. I always reflect

00:16:37:13 - 00:16:40:13
Or I think they’re going bad but they’re not. I always reflect

00:16:40:13 - 00:16:43:13
to that time, just painful to reflect to that time

00:16:43:13 - 00:16:47:15
And I’m like God I’m so lucky. I got a great family here, I got a great home, I got a great life.

00:16:47:15 - 00:16:52:04
Like, why? Why? Why?

00:16:52:04 - 00:16:54:03
Yeah. Your health.

00:16:54:03 - 00:16:58:11
Your health is everything. Your health is everything.

00:16:58:11 - 00:17:01:11
And so I feel like

00:17:01:11 - 00:17:05:08
when people don’t make it a priority in your life

00:17:05:08 - 00:17:09:21
you’re doing a real disservice to your body, your mind,

00:17:10:04 - 00:17:13:04
And not only for you. But for your family around you.

00:17:13:15 - 00:17:18:18
Your family needs you. So why are you not taking care of yourself?

00:17:18:21 - 00:17:19:12
I think

00:17:19:12 - 00:17:22:12
women in particular need to learn this

00:17:23:04 - 00:17:26:08
And, you know, very important lesson because,

00:17:27:01 - 00:17:31:01
you know, I always tell my clients, you gotta put the oxygen mask on yourself.

00:17:32:11 - 00:17:36:08
And most women, especially, you know, when they become mothers,

00:17:36:08 - 00:17:39:11
and they're trying to run a business, or they're working.

00:17:39:22 - 00:17:43:10
They put everything else before themselves and their health suffers.

00:17:44:02 - 00:17:47:16
But if they put their health first, they could be better at work,

00:17:47:16 - 00:17:53:04
they could better for their families, for their kids. I think it’s vital.

00:17:53:04 - 00:17:57:09
It is.  So I am glad you learned that lesson.  We love

00:17:57:09 - 00:18:02:03
seeing you out there killing it and crushing it, but we want you to do it and be healthy.

00:18:02:03 - 00:18:05:12
So we are really glad. I think you creating the app

00:18:05:12 - 00:18:08:14
kind of was one way that you didn't have to travel as much.

00:18:08:14 - 00:18:10:09
Is that right?

00:18:10:09 - 00:18:13:06
Yeah. Well.

00:18:13:06 - 00:18:16:06
Going back to 1996.

00:18:17:08 - 00:18:30:12
Was when I was teaching fitness at a fitness club in Pasadena that’s not there anymore. And I remember someone watching me, my group coordinator

00:18:30:12 - 00:18:35:18
was working with someone, a director/producer who was looking for a girl

00:18:35:18 - 00:18:42:21
that could fuse things, who could do Pilates, who could dance who could do all that thing and be a performer. And she found me.

00:18:42:21 - 00:18:44:11
That's you.

00:18:44:11 - 00:18:52:05
I auditioned. Put on this method show on Fox Fit TV in 1996 because in that time they had all these fitness shows on. Do you remember all those fitness shows?

00:18:52:05 - 00:18:53:11
Yeah.

00:18:53:11 - 00:18:58:00
By the beach and they’re all doing the step aerobics. You know! All those videos.

00:18:58:00 - 00:19:01:03
And Gilead. Remember Gilead?

00:19:01:03 - 00:19:06:09
You know, and Denise Austin. well actually was a big producer was Denise Austin and Cal Pozo

00:19:06:09 - 00:19:08:01
And he was the first person

00:19:08:01 - 00:19:11:01
who saw me like, okay,

00:19:11:01 - 00:19:14:12
You’re going to be in this new method show. And he put me

00:19:14:13 - 00:19:17:13
in front of the camera, that was that actually the turn of my career being

00:19:17:13 - 00:19:22:15
going from just, like you know, like an instructor but actually put onto

00:19:22:15 - 00:19:24:18
camera and hosting and da da da.

00:19:24:18 - 00:19:27:08
So that was kind of. But  actually why I want to

00:19:27:08 - 00:19:30:13
mention that was because in 1996 was the first

00:19:30:13 - 00:19:33:07
time they put Pilates

00:19:33:07 - 00:19:34:20
on a video.

00:19:34:20 - 00:19:40:03
So. And then, you know in ‘96 the video it was a betamax

00:19:40:03 - 00:19:41:04
Not a VHS.

00:19:41:04 - 00:19:41:19
Yeah.

00:19:41:19 - 00:19:46:13
So then they go to VHS and obviously they drop betamax.

00:19:46:13 - 00:19:49:01
So I can honestly say

00:19:49:01 - 00:19:51:12
I’ve been on like Betamax or VHS

00:19:51:12 - 00:19:54:19
and then we fast forward to here and it’s virtual stuff now.

00:19:55:10 - 00:19:55:17
But yeah.

00:19:55:17 - 00:19:58:17
That was the first time that they put Pilates...sorry

00:19:58:19 - 00:20:00:19
That's the first time they put Pilates

00:20:00:19 - 00:20:03:13
on a, on a DVD.

00:20:03:13 - 00:20:05:07
And it was with two other ladies.

00:20:05:07 - 00:20:08:23
And that was like the real start of Pilates

00:20:09:02 - 00:20:12:05
in the media. In the social, not the social media, it wasn’t the social media

00:20:12:05 - 00:20:14:14
It wasn’t social media then,  but really

00:20:14:14 - 00:20:17:03
in the media part of it really.

00:20:17:03 - 00:20:18:01
So it’s quite interesting.

00:20:18:01 - 00:20:20:21
And that was when they fused methods together too.

00:20:20:21 - 00:20:24:02
And that was the innovator. Fusions. So I was

00:20:24:02 - 00:20:26:18
part of the innovation of fusion which is

00:20:26:18 - 00:20:28:18
everywhere now. Fusion’s

00:20:28:18 - 00:20:30:18
everywhere. Pilates

00:20:30:18 - 00:20:32:02
is booming after we

00:20:32:02 - 00:20:35:07
did the Saturday Night Live skit. Like a few weeks ago

00:20:35:07 - 00:20:37:13
If you haven’t seen it you should definitely see

00:20:37:13 - 00:20:41:10
the Saturday Night Live skit, because seriously Pilates is booming

00:20:41:10 - 00:20:48:04
after COVID. You know it just went boom! But it’s really been here a lot longer.

00:20:48:04 - 00:20:50:12
Well describe your app for us so people can

00:20:50:12 - 00:20:52:23
get a picture of what that looks like.

00:20:52:23 - 00:20:56:19
So because I have done so many videos in the past and I’ve produced

00:20:56:19 - 00:21:05:14
I started to produce my own videos, actually was when Ty was born, my second child. Which was 2003.

00:21:05:14 - 00:21:12:17
I produced my first video, which cost an absolute arm and leg. And I remember taking all this money to produce

00:21:12:17 - 00:21:14:07
a video

00:21:14:07 - 00:21:16:10
It had 3 cameras, it had the jib,

00:21:16:10 - 00:21:20:18
and it had all the people behind me, and Deborah Rosen who was

00:21:20:18 - 00:21:22:01
here one of

00:21:22:01 - 00:21:26:20
your guests she was in it and you were in it too! Chantal!

00:21:26:20 - 00:21:29:23
She was in my bootybarre video.

00:21:29:23 - 00:21:35:05
Yeah. She was in my bootybarre and she was fantastic.

00:21:35:05 - 00:21:38:23
So I had all these videos and I was like, oh, this would be a great way

00:21:38:23 - 00:21:43:11
to, pop it onto, you know, onto an app. So it was before COVID

00:21:43:13 - 00:21:46:04
I've always had before it was just really

00:21:46:04 - 00:21:49:00
a way of putting it on an app or on a platform.

00:21:49:00 - 00:21:51:00
Then Covid came obviously, and everything

00:21:51:00 - 00:21:56:06
went all on zoom and apps and dadada.

00:21:56:06 - 00:22:02:08
So the market got completely saturated ‘cause now you can anybody and everybody like online.

00:22:02:09 - 00:22:08:16
But it was a great way for me to be able to. I record, put new workouts up there.

00:22:08:16 - 00:22:14:05
And it was a great way to reach a lot of people internationally that followed me for years

00:22:14:05 - 00:22:17:17
or who were doing my workouts for years. So anybody can sign up for the app? Yeah.

00:22:17:17 - 00:22:20:16
And you have a new program on there right now

00:22:20:16 - 00:22:23:16
that I might be involved in.

00:22:23:22 - 00:22:31:18
Well, aging gracefully, let’s talk about age doesn’t define you., I truly believe that.

00:22:31:19 - 00:22:34:08
I think.

00:22:34:08 - 00:22:39:07
Hitting your 40’s and hitting your 50’s

00:22:39:08 - 00:22:42:23
I think for women is a very hard subject to tackle

00:22:42:23 - 00:22:45:07
not only from a physical

00:22:45:07 - 00:22:49:19
but a mental point of view too. And from a mental point of view.

00:22:49:19 - 00:22:51:15
It is challenging.

00:22:51:15 - 00:22:53:13
Because I've always on camera.

00:22:53:13 - 00:22:55:22
I'm always looking at myself which is really challenging,

00:22:55:22 - 00:22:57:17
you know, I'm always so

00:22:57:17 - 00:23:00:16
critical of ourselves. And we age.

00:23:00:17 - 00:23:04:08
And then I also think, well,

00:23:04:08 - 00:23:07:08
why would anybody want to work out with anymore, I am old now?

00:23:07:08 - 00:23:10:08
You know, I know I, I'm being very transparent here

00:23:10:08 - 00:23:13:16
because I'm a very transparent person.

00:23:13:18 - 00:23:15:06
What you see is what you get.

00:23:15:06 - 00:23:18:01
And that's what a lot of people like about me. I’m very to the point.

00:23:18:01 - 00:23:19:23
And I talk the truth.

00:23:19:23 - 00:23:22:14
If I tell you like, oh yeah, I feel great.

00:23:22:14 - 00:23:24:19
I'm super confident, I can go on there.

00:23:24:19 - 00:23:27:17
I’m aging. I still look great. That’s not me.

00:23:27:17 - 00:23:31:09
I have work at it to look like I do,

00:23:31:19 - 00:23:36:09
and which is why I feel like I’ve inspired a lot of women to look after themselves.

00:23:36:12 - 00:23:40:20
So I did a program Fit and Strong Over 40

00:23:40:20 - 00:23:43:14
even though I am in 50’s

00:23:43:14 - 00:23:46:14
I think it’s very important that

00:23:46:18 - 00:23:50:03
everyone starts looking after themselves as earlier the better

00:23:50:05 - 00:23:54:03
as they hit their 40’s. Definitely they have to.

00:23:54:03 - 00:23:55:23
And you were involved in it too.

00:23:55:23 - 00:24:01:01
How we can reduce our stress, because that's the biggest thing with cortisol levels.

00:24:01:01 - 00:24:04:01
And how that's impacted people’s workouts.

00:24:04:01 - 00:24:04:05
Yeah.

00:24:04:05 - 00:24:07:08
That's what's affecting our our hormones for sure.

00:24:07:08 - 00:24:10:02
The hormonal imbalance is all related to cortisol.

00:24:10:02 - 00:24:13:20
So I bring in the stress piece in Tracey's new program.

00:24:14:04 - 00:24:17:23
And tell us a little bit about why you created that program

00:24:17:23 - 00:24:22:14
personally. I know you kind of went through some stuff when you hit

00:24:22:14 - 00:24:24:11
Was it 40 or 45?

00:24:24:11 - 00:24:34:22
Well actually, I feel fortunate in the most place. Perimenopausal, I’ve been quite fortunate in the fact that

00:24:34:22 - 00:24:37:18
I have not had

00:24:37:18 - 00:24:43:15
huge symptoms compared to a lot of my colleagues and friends. However, I’m such a high energy person.

00:24:43:15 - 00:24:49:00
My energy levels, still pretty high but not the norm for me.

00:24:49:00 - 00:24:52:09
I also, you know, gained weight

00:24:52:09 - 00:24:55:04
in areas areas that I thought I would never gain weight.

00:24:55:04 - 00:24:55:21
in areas areas that I thought I would never gain weight.

00:24:55:21 - 00:25:00:21
And when you’re on camera all the time, and I say this you gotta understand. Look, this is

00:25:00:21 - 00:25:06:21
personal opinion, from my lens, how I perceive it.

00:25:06:21 - 00:25:08:09
People are out there looking at me like,

00:25:08:09 - 00:25:11:03
Oh, you look fantastic. What are you talking about?

00:25:11:03 - 00:25:13:09
Yeah, but I have to work at it to look like this.

00:25:13:09 - 00:25:18:07
And you gotta remember,  I watch myself on camera all the time. So I see things.

00:25:18:07 - 00:25:21:03
Yeah. I have a pretty good body. Yeah, I, I'm not denying that.

00:25:21:03 - 00:25:23:05
But I have to work at it to look

00:25:23:05 - 00:25:24:22
and feel this way.

00:25:24:22 - 00:25:28:01
But I remember I decided I'm going to do this workout

00:25:28:16 - 00:25:30:19
and I actually filmed some videos

00:25:30:19 - 00:25:33:19
And I watched these videos.

00:25:33:19 - 00:25:36:19
And I started to cry.

00:25:36:19 - 00:25:39:19
I was like, Oh my God, who’s that?

00:25:39:19 - 00:25:42:19
And I remember having this feeling when I just had

00:25:42:19 - 00:25:45:19
Amber, which was 22 years ago.

00:25:45:19 - 00:25:49:19
My daughter. And I remember and I kind of like put it in parallel

00:25:50:03 - 00:25:56:01
I’m looking in the mirror and I’m like, who’s body does that belong to? Oh, I’m a mom. That’s what I’m supposed to look like.

00:25:56:01 - 00:25:59:01
And then I look at myself in this video and I’m like,

00:25:59:01 - 00:26:02:18
Oh. I’m 50. That's what I'm supposed to look like.

00:26:02:18 - 00:26:05:18
I'm like, hell no, that's not what I'm supposed to look like.

00:26:05:22 - 00:26:09:04
I want to look and feel good, how I want to look and feel good.

00:26:09:04 - 00:26:10:07
But that doesn't mean to say

00:26:10:17 - 00:26:12:17
you can judge me on how I look.

00:26:12:17 - 00:26:14:21
I got to feel good in myself.

00:26:14:21 - 00:26:17:15
It means I need to maybe loose a few pounds

00:26:17:15 - 00:26:18:23
That's my prerogative.

00:26:18:23 - 00:26:21:10
And that was my choice,

00:26:21:10 - 00:26:23:12
you know, because

00:26:23:12 - 00:26:26:10
people are so judgmental. at looking at you, they think

00:26:26:10 - 00:26:29:10
that you’re you know, you were born in this way.

00:26:29:14 - 00:26:32:15
You don’t have to work for it.  And I’m like you have no clue.

00:26:32:15 - 00:26:35:15
You should never judge people by their cover for a starter.

00:26:35:14 - 00:26:40:02
Well, we are  going to come back to that, because we are now

00:26:40:02 - 00:26:46:15
